Is this preventing your progress?

Jan 11, 2023

I sat on my bed the night before school started, feeling fidgety and anxious. I mulled with indecision over what to wear the next day. This seemed like such a big decision, it was middle school after all! I organized my school supplies a few times and loaded my backpack. I took a deep breath. "I’m ready," I said to myself.

As I put my head on the pillow that night, my head swirled with all sorts of worries and thoughts. Who will be in my class? Will my teachers be nice? It took forever to fall asleep, and I must’ve woken a million times. I felt I hadn’t slept a wink when it was time to go to school. With my stomach swirling, I tried to eat breakfast and out the door I went.

Do you have similar memories of anxiety around newness?

Perhaps you’re the sort that loves change and barrels forward without trepidation, but many of my clients (and myself) don’t fit this mold.

The fact is, our body likes routine. It soothes our nervous system because we know what to expect. It decreases fear and worry and sets our mind at ease. It supports the cycles in the body: our circadian rhythm, our hormonal rhythms, and even our elimination cycles.

The trouble comes when we need to break out of old habits and energies.

I mentioned in last week’s newsletter the average person as 60,000 thoughts per day and 90% are the same as the week before. That’s a tremendous amount of thought habit.

How do we crack out of those patterns that aren’t serving us?

By making way for change. By feeling safe enough to consider a different path.

Perhaps you’ve felt this hesitation when making a decision to move to a new home, leave a job, or make a big financial decision.

I’d like to label these feelings of hesitation, doubt, indecision, fear of making the wrong decision, or of making a big change: fear/anxiety of change.

I always say awareness is 80% of the solution…so just being aware that this exists is empowering.

If you’re in a dead-end job or relationship that needs to end (or other big change that you feel needs to happen but you’re hesitating), tune into yourself for a moment. What is holding you back?

Perhaps you’re afraid because you don’t see how a good outcome is possible.

Or maybe deep down, you don’t feel worthy of feeling good.

Or maybe you’re putting others’ needs head of your own: I have a responsibility to them, I have to take care of them, their needs are more important than mine.

Or something else?

What is blocking your progress?

In my practice, I find when it comes to health and wellbeing, the root cause of this hesitation usually comes down to fear of change or feeling unworthy of something better.

Fear, anxiety, guilt, shame.

And our childhood experiences can leave us with belief systems, thought patterns and suppressed emotion that supports these fears and anxieties.

We must find a way to reprogram and release these negative energies and align ourselves with what we want. Then major change and transformation is possible.

You are worthy of feeling good.

Change is safe.

It’s normal to feel butterflies when making a new big step.

But if you want to make a change and can’t seem to do it, something is blocking you.

If this is holding you back on some big step in your life, let’s connect. Energy medicine is a beautiful way to remove past experiences anchoring shame, fear and anxiety that are blocking you from manifesting what you rightfully deserve – health, joy, wellbeing.
